Bye, Bye Gasoline? 🚗

Following the trend of many other climate-forward countries, the UK government has announced plans to ban the sale of new "petrol" (Gasoline) and diesel cars by 2030. While this goal is certainly the right direction, some question whether it is enough. The UK aims to be carbon neutral by 2050.

Will my car smell like.... water? 🌊

While completely removing gasoline vehicles is an ambitious goal, many car manufacturers are keen on finding ways to keep the money rolling in. Porsche, the German luxury car manufacturer has found a way to produce biofuel from two things: air and water.

Coming back to life? 🐟🪸

If you've ever been snorkeling around a "reef" area, you are probably familiar with the grey burned-out corals and brown fish that are swimming around. While it can certainly be beautiful, it is a stark reality of what we have done to the oceans around us. However, it sounds like that might be changing?....

Self-powered Fridges? 🥶

What do spoiled food, social welfare, and solar panels have in common? They are all involved in the Coldhubs project launched in Nigeria. The project aims to provide facilities to developing countries to keep food fresher for longer and reduce greenhouse emissions.

Breadfruit. Can it take a beating? 🍞🥊

One of the least obvious, yet most important impacts of climate change is the effect on our food systems. Many nations expect that significant fluctuations in weather caused by climate change will impact the quality of their crops. Is the solution to grow crops that can take more of a beating?

Less windy? 🌪️

Colorado state university, one of the main institutes that monitors hurricane activity in the United States, has published findings that this year will have the least amount since 2014. Additionally, this means that the world can expect weaker El Niños and La Niñas this year.

A really loooooooooooong power line ⚡️

The Netherlands and the UK plan to build Europe's biggest cross-border power line to deliver clean energy. Connected to an offshore wind farm, the power line should transfer enough electricity to power 1.8 million homes.

Can the sun really do that much?? ☀️

As you might have read in last week's edition, solar and wind power are making a big comeback (what is the present tense for comeback? comeforward?). As the world struggles with an energy crisis based on oil, solar and wind show us a "bright future". 😉

Want to limit the amount of gas coming from down under? 💨

43%... that is the number the Australian government is committing to reduce greenhouse gas release by. Under pressure from the green party to completely remove fossil fuel consumption and reaction, reformed legislation has been released with an ambitious goal.

Something to read 📖

And finally, a recommended read. Climate Optimism, a book celebrating positive climate change around the world, written by young activist Zahra Biaban is a fantastic read for anyone wanting some good climate news.

And that's it folks! 👋
